*The Law: The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 No.635 Part II Regulation 4, subsection 1 & 2 state that:

1) All systems shall at all times be of such construction as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, danger; and

2) As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger.

'Systems'  can include things that you 'plug in' - these are "portable appliances" such as kettles and irons. The testing of items that staff or public might use is a good way of proving that your system is safe and that you care about your staff and customers. Some insurers also insist upon it.

'Maintained '  means 'kept safe to use'. Having things inspected and tested every so often through a Periodic Inspection or Electrical Safety Check, is a good way of proving that your system is still safe to use, and won't harm either yourself or anyone who comes to work on your electrics.


We are registered with the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme which means we issue NICEIC certificates where appropriate for the work we carry out.
